While in the Book of Life, love is defined as: “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
The foregoing verses remind us to go beyond love that is merely felt to a love that knows no boundary or simply put, an unconditional love. It is easy to love our family, friends, the people who are good to us, and those who loved us in return. But it is quite hard to show love to the unlovable or those we perceived as difficult or a person we consider as tribulator or persecutor or worst as an enemy. However, it is unconditional love that will lead us to decide to act always with patience and gentleness and bearing with one another's shortcomings and failures to be able to preserve the unity amongst us.
The famous Mother Theresa of Calcutta is a good example of a person who showed to the world the real meaning of selfless love in action. And I would end this article by listing some of her quotations on love, which I hope would give inspiration to all of us:
“There is more hunger in the world for love and appreciation than for bread”.
“Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired”.
“In this life, we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love”.
